Submissions

Three ways to work with us: news tips to the news desk, contributed articles to the editors, and clearly labelled partner content. Pick the track that fits and write to the matching address.

1. News desk

Send news to [email protected]: funding rounds, mergers and acquisitions, exits, product launches, key hires and original data.

  • Embargoes are respected. Put the embargo date and time in GMT in the subject line, for example “EMBARGO 09:00 GMT, 12 November: Company X raises Series A”.
  • Press releases are welcome as a news tip, but we do not republish releases as articles. We write our own piece, may verify the facts with the company and its investors, and may decline to cover the story.
  • Include the facts we need to check: names, amounts, investors, dates and a contact who can be reached the same day.

2. Contributed articles

Op-eds, analysis, founder case studies, investor theses and practical guides go to [email protected].

  • Pitch first. Send a working headline, a three to five bullet outline of the argument and the evidence, a line on why you are the right person to write it, and links to two or three pieces of your past writing or public work. Attach nothing at this stage.
  • Original and exclusive: your own work, not published elsewhere in full or in substance, and offered to us first.
  • Conflicts of interest are disclosed: holdings, board seats, advisory roles and clients. We print the relevant disclosure with the piece.
  • Free and unpaid: editorial publication costs nothing and we do not pay contributors. Links in contributed articles are editorial and may be marked nofollow.
  • Response within 10 working days to every pitch, whether the answer is yes, not yet or no.
  • Rights: you keep the copyright. You grant us a licence to publish the article on venturesignal.org, in our newsletter and on our social channels.

What we publish

  • Analysis and opinion: an argument with evidence, on a market, a policy or a technology shift.
  • Founder case studies: fundraising, exits and failures, told with the real numbers and what you would do differently.
  • Investor theses: why you back, or avoid, a category, and what would change your mind.
  • Data-driven pieces: original datasets, benchmarks, cost and margin breakdowns, with the method stated.
  • Practical guides: cap tables, term sheets, EMI, SEIS and EIS, AI governance, security and compliance.
  • Responses: a reasoned reply to something we have published.

What we do not publish

  • Press releases or funding announcements without analysis.
  • Product promotion written as an article, or pieces whose main purpose is to place a link.
  • Token or coin promotion, price predictions and investment tips.
  • Text generated by AI. We read for a human voice and first-hand detail.
  • Anything defamatory, or claims about named people or companies that you cannot source.

Standards, formats and length

  • Sourced: every figure carries a link to its source, or is labelled as your own data with the method stated.
  • Edited: we edit for clarity and length and we fact-check. You see the final edit and approve it before publication.
  • Credited: a byline in your real name, a short bio with your role and, if you wish, a headshot you own the rights to. Images must be ones you created or are licensed to use.
  • Length: quick take 500–800 words; analysis 900–1,800; founder case study 1,200–2,000; guide 1,200–2,000 with worked examples.
  • Style: British English, dry and analytical. Ranges use en dashes. No hype vocabulary and no exclamation marks.
Send your pitch to [email protected]Put “Pitch” and your working headline in the subject line. Links are enough.

3. Partner content (sponsored)

Brands that want to reach our readers can run partner content. Write to [email protected] with the subject “Partner content”.

  • Clearly labelled “Sponsored” or “Partner content” at the top of the piece.
  • Links carry rel=”sponsored”.
  • Written or edited to our standards: sourced, plain and free of hype. We may ask for changes or decline a brief.
  • No influence on editorial coverage. Buying partner content does not buy news coverage, a favourable mention or the removal of anything we have published.
  • Rates and media kit are available on request.

We do not accept sponsored promotion of crypto-assets, tokens or investment products, or anything that would amount to a financial promotion. We also do not accept gambling or unverifiable claims.

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge to publish?

No for editorial: news coverage and contributed articles are free, and we do not pay contributors. Partner content is paid, and it is always labelled as Sponsored or Partner content.

Do you accept embargoes?

Yes. Send the story to [email protected] with the embargo date and time in GMT in the subject line. We keep to it.

Do you publish press releases?

No. A press release is welcome as a news tip, but we write our own piece, may verify it with the company and its investors, and may decline to cover it.

How long until I get a reply?

We reply to every article pitch within 10 working days, whether the answer is yes, not yet or no.

Are links in your articles dofollow?

Links in editorial and contributed articles are editorial and may be marked nofollow. Links in partner content always carry rel="sponsored".

Can I write under a pen name?

No. We publish contributors under their real name and role, with a short bio.

Can AI write my article?

No. We do not publish AI-generated text. Your piece needs a human voice and first-hand detail.

Who decides what gets published?

The editor-in-chief, George Bregman. Partner content, advertisers and investors in the companies we cover have no say over editorial decisions.
